If it feels like the yellowjackets got meaner this month, you're not imagining it.

By early fall their colonies have peaked and their usual food sources are drying up. That's when they start showing up where people are — around trash cans, at tailgates, on the picnic table, in the soda can you set down five minutes ago.

They're also more defensive this time of year, and the nests are at their largest. Many are in the ground or inside a wall void, which means people find them by accident, usually with a mower or a footstep.

What this customer thought was a yellow jacket nest turned out to be something quite different, and that is exactly why pest identification expertise matters so much.

Greg arrived expecting to treat a yellow jacket nest but quickly identified it as a cicada killer wasp nest instead. Rather than applying a one size fits all treatment, he took the time to explain the difference, walked the customer through exactly how he planned to treat it and what they could expect throughout the process. He even made adjustments along the way to ensure the problem was resolved correctly.
That level of technical knowledge combined with clear communication and the flexibility to adapt on the spot is exactly what separates good pest control from truly excellent pest control.
