Beautiful example of the Art Moderne style in Macon, Georgia
The Ocmulgee National Monument Visitor Center near Macon is an unusual example of the Art Moderne style. This was the National Park Service's first departure from its standard visitor center designs, as the architect felt this important Native American archaeological site needed a different type of design. Designed in 1938 with construction beginning a year later by the Civilian Conservation Corps under the Works Progress Administration, completion of the building was delayed by World War 2 until 1951.
