pecialize in the creative use of native plants amid traditional Southern favorites; innovative stormwater recovery and management; regionally-astute hardscape design; outdoor living spaces; and custom architectural detailing. As design professionals, we strive to balance the need for human expression and recreation with the growing need to conserve water encourage beneficial wildlife, and promote biodiversity. We also encourage a sustainable approach to local landscape design in the belief that individual property owners and land managers can have a positive impact on broader regional, national, and global environmental efforts. To this end, we seek design solutions that both satisfy the functional and aesthetic needs of the owners and preserve site-specific environmental advantages. Beyond the basic need for beautiful site plans with clear intent and logical function, we hope to create a strong sense of connection between people and a place; to elevate the human spirit; and to spark imagination, creativity and healthy outdoor lifestyles.

Every drop has a place. In this residence, our thoughtfully designed rain garden transforms runoff into a living landscape feature. Framed by stucco masonry walls, the rain garden receives and filters storm water from the river rock swale to feed the native grasses. This creates a lovely, enclosed garden space around an elevated footbridge that connects the main house to the guest house. Blue stone steppingstones create a pervious path that connects the driveway and garage areas. Throughout the landscape native perennials add a pop of color while native grasses soften the existing hardscape. In the rear of the house, a water bubbler creates a peaceful ambiance while looking out over the marsh.

Verdant enjoyed a beautiful day laying out the planting plan for a Brays Island residence with Ackerman Landscape and Irrigation last week. Check out how the unfinished rain garden has already started to collect the stormwater and allow it to percolate!
