All this from 2 1/2 days of playing pick-up-sticks from the ice event last weekend. Likely another week to go of debris cleanup, though Mother Nature is threatening another winter storm next week.

Make-A-Wish Maine Trailblaze Challenge 2021…

It takes a village to succeed. This village of family first business sponsors, along with the efforts of 62 hikers and their fundraising efforts, are bringing some serious WISH power! $207,000.00 raised, and all of it to be used to grant wishes to critically ill kids here in Maine. Currently with 100 kids in the pipeline, the support is much needed.

For Andy Fraser and Maine Turf & Greenery, this was the 3rd Trailblaze Challenge they’ve sponsored. The company will also assist with granting a playground wish later this month.

Careful of the Eruption!

Today a client called concerned that they didn't receive enough mulch this spring. After further investigation and dialog, this misconception was the result of their observation of other commercial vendors in the area building "volcanoes" at the base of trees. This poor practice can "erupt" and cause a host of problems, killing the very tree that one is trying to enhance. Learn more at

Extension educators, arborists, and other knowledgeable horticulturists have railed against the prevalence of mulch volcanoes for decades. So why do we still see so much mulch piled around the trunks of trees?
