We did a Mr.Cool -
Few things to note for any DIY installers.
One- they sent the wrong adapters for their own precharged linesets. Sourcing parts was extremely difficult. The refrigeration lines were much larger than the adapters they had given to connect to the service ports on their unit. This is where the problem comes into place and anyone who is going to DIY a Minisplit should know these few things
-in order to correctly install the lines we had to replace the refrigerant lines for the same size in order to flare the ends to attach to the compressor system. This costs roughly a couple hundred dollars not including labor and refrigerant
-WHY? - because the EPA does not allow the discharge of refrigerant into the atmosphere, therefore the pre charged linesets became virtually useless and had no means for us to safely reclaim the refrigerant. Also, pre charged linesets include large springs used to engage the opposing fitting, foolproof right? Wrong - this is an added restriction in the refrigeration lines that in our personal opinion, these companies have not figured out a means to circumnavigate, restrictions are bad.
-That doesn’t mean everyone will have the same experience that we ran into with DIY minisplits, if you have questions always contact a proffesional service provider before you attempt to do this sort of work yourself, you might avoid a headache down the road.
Overall rating of a Mr.Cool is honestly a 6.5 out of 10. They seem to be fairly straightforward and include a really great warranty on their parts, they had even been willing to send a technician out to meet us in order to formulate a solution. However, it’s our opinion that their product is not the same quality as some of their competitors, and the one pre charged lineset we had been able to use ended up a coiled up mess beside the unit, so they aren’t exactly aesthetic.
