CTS Excavations, LLC is looking for an experienced and motivated Survey Layout Crew Chief to assist with our staking and site layout operations in the Huntsville / Scottsboro, AL area!
💼 What You’ll Do:
• Assist the daily operations of the survey layout crew to efficiently establish construction staking for earthwork, utilities, roadways, and structures.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain precision survey equipment including robotic total stations, GPS rovers, and data collectors.
• Read and interpret civil engineering blueprints, grading plans, and structural drawings to calculate data points accurately in the field.
• Download, upload, and verify digital terrain models (DTM), coordinate files, and field notes. Collaborate directly with Survey and Project Managers and Superintendents.
• Conduct as-built surveys and verify established grades to identify and correct potential layout discrepancies before excavation begins.
🛠️ What We’re Looking For:
• Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in civil construction surveying or construction layout, with at least 1–2 years in a Crew Chief/leadership capacity.
• Proficiency with modern survey equipment (Topcon and Sokki GPS/Robotic systems) and field data collection software.
• Strong understanding of construction math, geometry, and coordinate geometry (COGO).
• Ability to walk long distances over rugged, uneven terrain and work outdoors in all southern weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record to operate company survey vehicles.
