Throwback Thursday to our "Lincoln Logs" Home on Lake Coeur d' Alene!

Join Mark Candelaria in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho as he shows off this architectural and engineering feat of a friction fit log home on a steep lot in this Design Network episode of Sketch from 2015.

This home is a 2-level, commercial grade "Lincoln Log" home on the slope of a mountain leading down to their dock on Lake Coeur d' Alene. The lower level basement provides a strong concrete and steel foundation to support the log walls - 17 semi-trucks worth of logs from Canada! In addition to the stone floors a grand fireplace, and all of the furniture. Mark shows us the ins and outs of what it took for Edwards Construction to build this home and the incredible features throughout.

A Santa Barbara-Style Remodel by Architect Mark Candelaria & his Interior Designer wife Isabel Dellinger-Candelaria was recently featured in July's Iconic Life Magazine: https://iconiclife.com/inside-a-candelaria-design-santa-barbara-style-home-in-arizona/

The team and the clients shared a similar vision: to enhance the home’s original Spanish and Santa Barbara undertones while modernizing functionality by opening up outdated rooms and eliminating older features throughout. The overall vision was to create a home that felt calm, grounded and enduring, and would evolve with the family over time.

Purchased in 2016, the clients waited until 2020 to start the remodel process, when timing and finances aligned. Little did they know that a worldwide pandemic would cause significant material inflation and supply shortages throughout the remodel. However, their home needed not only aesthetic changes but also mechanical, electrical, plumbing and high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, so they moved forward despite the challenges.

Nestled amongst the Ponderosa Pines within the prestigious Pine Canyon Community in Flagstaff, a modern mountain escape punctuates the landscape. The clients wanted a summer home that both looked like and acts as a modern art museum for their personal collection.

Mark Candelaria worked closely with the clients, builder and his interior designer wife Isabel Dellinger-Candelaria to create a modern mountain home where the couple were surrounded by both natural and created art.

In true Candelaria fashion, Mark hosted a dinner party for the happy new homeowners, a couple of their friends and the entire project team. He treated them to his special Spanish Paella and songs on the piano.

What an amazing Day 1 and start to our 3rd Oregon Wine and Food Tour and our 28th Tour over the last 26 years!!!
We made it to the beautiful and our home for the next days which we bought out so this truly is just our home!
We have 15 amazing travelers this time and we started the tour with a fabulous catered dinner brought in by paired with a wide selection of local wines to accompany each course.
Finished the evening around the firepit enjoying 70° temps and the chance for our travelers to unwind with a magnificent Pinot in hand and get the chance to get further acquainted!
So excited for Day 2 where we will tour the followed by a 6-course farm to table dinner and wine pairing at James Beard semifinalist !

We took our Candelaria Design Team to walk through an incredible home we have under construction spanning 2 lots in Scottsdale’s Arcadia proper. ⁠

This home is for a large family and in addition to the main house, a second building functions for homeschooling the kids with a beautiful pool, outdoor seating spaces and and veggie gardens in between. Designed to look like a barn, inside there is an entire state of the art gymnasium, a music room fit for aspiring rockstars, an inspiring craft room and an in-home classroom with a full kitchen. Behind the Barn is a full sports court for basketball, volleyball and pickleball. ⁠

Classic Carefree Home Gets a Makeover⁠
Mark Candelaria & homeowner Cheryl Dempsey worked together to revitalize this classic Carefree home built in 1977. Originally designed by Mark’s mentor, Architect George Christensen, the two were extremely thoughtful in what they preserved and what they changed. Some characteristics of Christensen’s design are the varying ceiling heights, small quirky touched and “Arizona Rooms”, which was one room left virtually untouched in the remodel. ⁠
