This is so hard to write because it still feels so unreal, but it has already been nearly two weeks since we said goodbye to our loyal friend and sweet girl Greenie.
One summer night in 2014, we took a different route home through the neighborhood. We didn’t know it at the time, but our lives were about to change forever. We found a young brown dog running down the sidewalk, a small dirty collar around her neck and a huge smile on her face. We brought her home and tried to find her owners, but no one claimed her, and she quickly became our new best friend.
That year we started planting fruit trees in our backyard, and she dug every hole with us. We built raised beds, and she sampled every veggie with us. We started calling our yard Greenie’s Garden and the name stuck when we started our business in 2017.
Over the past 12 years, Greenie was by our sides through all different stages of our lives — getting married; quitting our jobs to found Greenie’s Garden; beautiful gains and devastating losses of family and friends; and all the little changes that a person could go through as they grow — and we will forever be grateful for those 12 years.
But 12 years could never be enough time, and while our hearts feel so full to have known her, they also feel so broken to have to say goodbye so suddenly.
We’ll always remember her goofy habits: rolling in the dirt right after getting a bath, waiting by the cutting board in the kitchen for pieces of lettuce and carrots, opening only the Christmas presents that had her name on them, sitting in the backyard watching birds or simply sniffing the air. She loved going on walks and her ears and tail would bounce rhythmically up and down with every step.
She was so special and still means the world to us, and our home feels so empty without her. We’re honored to carry on her name through our company and look forward to being reunited again one day.
Rest easy dear girl, and thank you for spending your life loving us and letting us love you!
