Thinking about replacing your electrical panel but not sure what the process actually looks like?

A panel replacement is more than just swapping out a metal box. From permitting and shutting down power to installing the new panel, labeling circuits, inspections, and getting everything powered back up, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.

We put together a quick guide explaining what to expect during an electrical panel replacement, including:

🔌 How to prepare before installation day
⚡ What happens during the replacement
🏠 How long your power may be off
🔍 Permits and inspections
✅ What happens once the work is complete

If your panel is outdated, overloaded, or you’re planning upgrades like an EV charger, heat pump, hot tub, or other high-demand equipment, it may be time to start thinking about your home’s electrical capacity.

Don’t let this ruffle your feathers but...
1. Generators are for people who don’t want spoiled food, frozen pipes, medical equipment shutting off or business downtime or *GASP* no WiFi connection

2. Portable generators can help in emergencies- but they do not offer automatic power, have a limited capacity and require manual setup. Standby generators turn on within seconds, power critical systems and don’t rely on you being home.

3. Reality is standby generators are designed to self-exercise weekly and typically need 1 professional service per year. That’s less maintenance than most HVAC systems - and far less hassle than dealing with a blackout.

4. If you live in WA- just stop. Stop lying to yourself Power outages don’t discriminate- smart prep doesn’t either.

5. Modern generators are significantly quieter and are designed to blend into your property. Your neighbors will hear the storm- not your generator.

Comment if you agree with these facts (or are a fellow silly goose 🤪)

A power surge doesn’t have to be dramatic to cause damage. ⚡

Small surges can happen regularly from appliances cycling on and off, utility fluctuations, outages, and other electrical events. Over time, that can take a toll on the electronics and equipment throughout your home.

Whole-home surge protection adds protection right at your electrical panel, helping protect everything from TVs and computers to appliances, HVAC equipment, EV chargers, and more.

So, is whole-home surge protection actually worth it?

Colder weather is right around the corner. Is your home’s electrical system ready?

Fall and winter usually mean more demand on your electrical system: space heaters, holiday lights, longer nights, generators, and more time spent indoors.

A little preparation now can help you catch electrical issues before they become a problem in the middle of winter.

⚡ Check outlets and switches for heat or discoloration
⚡ Pay attention to flickering lights or frequently tripping breakers
⚡ Test smoke & CO detectors
⚡ Make sure outdoor outlets are GFCI protected
⚡ Consider whole-home surge protection
⚡ Have backup power ready before you actually need it

We put together a quick guide on getting your home’s electrical system ready for fall and winter.
