Redmond Library and Newhouse Replacement Building are finalists in the Metropolis Magazine Planet Positive Awards, which celebrate the people, projects, products, and ideas advancing a more sustainable, healthy, and equitable built environment.

Redmond Library is a finalist in the Civic category. Designed as a true civic living room, the two-story mass timber library more than doubles the size of the previous facility, creating flexible spaces for learning, creativity, and connection across generations. The LEED Platinum, all-electric building is designed to achieve net-zero energy, with a rooftop photovoltaic array sized to meet 100% of its annual energy demand.

The Newhouse Replacement Building is a finalist in the Overall Decarbonization category. Located on Washington State’s historic Capitol Campus, the project combines material reuse, locally sourced mass timber, and high-performance systems to significantly reduce its carbon impact. Newhouse reduces upfront embodied carbon by 52% compared to a conventional steel-and-concrete LEED baseline and is now a fully electrified, net-zero-ready building.

We're thrilled to share that Torrey Pines Fire Station and the Kennedy Library Transformation were recognized at last night's AIA San Diego Design Awards, celebrating design excellence through the lens of sustainability, inclusion, and resilience.

Torrey Pines Fire Station was designed around the health and safety of firefighters and the surrounding community. A three-zone layout helps reduce exposure to carcinogens, while healthy materials, daylight, natural ventilation, and indoor/outdoor spaces support firefighter wellbeing. The station is also the first in the region to include an all-electric fire apparatus, serving as a prototype for future City of San Diego stations.

The Kennedy Library Transformation reimagines Cal Poly SLO's 200,000-square-foot library to better support students, faculty, and staff in the digital age. The renovation prioritizes access to services, collaboration and study spaces while upgrading the building envelope and mechanical systems to improve thermal comfort and reduce energy consumption by 30%.

Designed as a place for everyone, the library reimagines what a community library can be—supporting lifelong learning through flexible spaces for reading, creating, collaborating, and gathering. From its mass timber structure to its intuitive organization and welcoming public spaces, the project reflects a vision of the library as a dynamic civic hub for Deschutes County.

The C Concourse Expansion (CCE) at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is featured on The Architect's Newspaper.

Designed by Miller Hull and Woods Bagot in collaboration with the Port of Seattle, the expansion brings a new level of performance, comfort, and connection to SEA. Guided by the concept of Bringing In, Seeing Out, the project’s folded facade transforms the building’s southwest exposure into an opportunity for sustainability and design innovation. Alternating south- and west-facing panels of electrochromic glass respond to changing daylight conditions, minimizing glare, optimizing natural light, and strengthening the connection between travelers and the Pacific Northwest landscape.

As the first airport project to implement the Port of Seattle Sustainable Evaluation Framework, the C Concourse Expansion sets a new benchmark for SEA with all-electric, fossil fuel-free systems, a 500 kW photovoltaic array, and a design targeting LEED Platinum certification.
