After a bathroom flood left this space needing to be put back together, we helped our clients turn an unexpected repair into an opportunity to create exactly what they wanted.

Instead of simply restoring what was there before, we upgraded the space with a walk-in tiled shower, built-in bench, warm wood vanity, and finishes that feel modern, functional, and completely their own.

Because sometimes putting your home back together means making it even better than it was before.

Where coastal vibes meet city living.

Our clients loved their neighborhood and knew they wanted to stay, but their home had become too small and simply wasn’t functioning for the way they lived.

Rather than leave the neighborhood they loved, we worked side by side with them to reimagine the entire home, creating more space, better function, and a cohesive design that feels light, warm, and just a little coastal.

The result is a home designed around the way they live now, and a forever home that can grow with them for years to come.

Permitting is one of the least glamorous parts of residential construction and one of the most consequential.

Homeowners planning a kitchen remodel often do not realize where the line sits. Cosmetic work generally does not require a permit. But relocating a sink, adding circuits, or removing a wall does, and the distinction is not always obvious until demolition is underway.

The complexity increases across the Puget Sound region, where Seattle, Shoreline, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, and unincorporated county areas each maintain their own requirements and review timelines. Assuming that what applied to a project in one jurisdiction applies in another is a common and avoidable error.

Our latest article lays out what requires a permit, what does not, where the grey areas are, and what happens when permits get skipped.

Do you need a permit for a kitchen remodel in Seattle? Blue Water Design Build explains which work requires one, which does not, and what happens if you skip it.

Cost transparency is uncommon in residential construction, and we think that is a mistake.

Homeowners researching a kitchen remodel deserve a realistic range before they start taking meetings. Vague answers early lead to misaligned expectations later, and misaligned expectations are the root of most difficult client conversations in this industry.

Our latest article puts Seattle kitchen remodel costs in writing, organized by scope: cosmetic updates, full remodels within the existing footprint, and layout changes or expansions. It also covers why regional costs run above national averages here, from labor rates to permitting requirements to the age of the local housing stock.

What does a kitchen remodel actually cost in Seattle in 2026? Blue Water Design Build breaks down real cost ranges by project type and what drives the number.

Not every firm that calls itself "design-build" actually operates that way.

Some are contractors who subcontract design work. Some are designers with a preferred contractor relationship. True design-build — where design and construction are genuinely integrated under one roof — is different in ways that show up in your budget accuracy, your timeline, and the quality of your finished project.

Our latest blog covers what design-build actually means, what to ask when you're vetting firms, and why it matters.

Thinking about hiring a design-build firm in Seattle? Learn what sets the design-build model apart, and what to look for before you sign a contract.

Here's something worth knowing before you start planning any home project: renovation, remodel, and addition are not the same thing.

A renovation refreshes what's already there. A remodel changes how a space functions. An addition creates entirely new square footage. Each carries a different level of complexity, a different permitting profile, and a very different budget range.

One of the most common budget surprises we see is a homeowner who priced out renovation-level work but is actually planning a remodel. Starting with clarity about which category your project falls into is the single best thing you can do before you talk to a contractor.

We wrote about it in our latest blog: a quick, practical read for anyone in the early stages of planning.

Renovation, remodel, or addition — do you know the difference? Blue Water Design Build breaks down what each project type means for your scope, permits, and budget in Seattle.

This is one of our favorite kinds of projects: a family who trusted us enough to come back.

We first renovated their basement. Then they came back for a second-floor addition and a full reimagining of their main floor in Victory Heights.

The results include a dream kitchen built into a tight footprint, a dining room built-in that hides an HVAC run in plain sight, and a custom entryway valet station — complete with display shelving for a collection that includes three Emmy Awards.
