In this home, large steel-framed windows pull the trunks and greenery of the surrounding forest directly into the rooms, while heavy timber and limestone give the interior a material weight equal to the view.

The living room is anchored by two elements: the carved limestone fireplace and the forest beyond the steel windows. Between them, reclaimed beams span overhead and broad stone slabs form the floor.

Looking through the kitchen, the room reveals its layers: rough timber overhead, dark counters and island, patterned tile at the work surfaces, plaster walls, and a framed view into the forest. A freestanding island, dark wood floor, plaster walls, reclaimed beams, patterned tile, and steel windows give the room the feeling of a working kitchen assembled over time.

The dining room is spare enough for the materials and view to carry the space.

Mark Elster spoke with journalist Hana Kim of FOX 13 Seattle about the impact Washington’s new “millionaires tax” is already having on the construction industry, particularly high-end residential projects.

At AOME, we believe it’s important to raise awareness of the broader impact these policies can have across the industry and the many businesses and workers connected to residential construction.

The choice of copper for the gutters and downspouts in the Maison de Provence project speaks to durability and longevity, aligned to the client’s deep understanding and appreciation of high-quality construction.

The gutter brackets are both decorative and functional, with a refined finial curl at their ends that echoes the corbels of the wood soffits. The downspouts are fitted with a debris clean-out door at their base. Old world craft to suit an architecture built to last for a century.
