Flashback Friday! What I love about design is when I am surprised by something unexpected – and beautiful. Such was the case last year when I was next to the Amazon Sphere and discovered these Great Blue Herons by artist Craig Cundiff ‘nesting’ in a set of concrete stairs.

One of this week’s highlights was completing these co****le boards for the St Catherine School’s Auction. They look impressive in part thanks to Yourboardwrap.com. We uploaded our art work and they created the vinyl wraps for the deck. Thanks to Brice Nelson for building such great boards and using his Ninja squeegee skills for applying the wraps. This weekend I’ll be sewing the corn hole bags made from the kindergarteners’ tie dye art.

1, 2, 3 …. Instant privacy. Here’s one of my favorite ways to create privacy for a small space. We planted these standard Laurels to create a pleached hedge this week on Capitol Hill. A pleached hedge is basically a hedge on slits. I love them because the foliage is up high where you typically need the screening, but you still have space directly below for planting. You maximize the bed space for multiple plantings instead just a hedge. I love the rhythm of the trunks against the fence and how this effect creates greater depth for the garden. Check back soon the see the finished space. Thanks to Terry at L&B Nurseries for getting us these awesome plants.

Putting in some final touches on one of our projects. We really like the composition of the black steel with the blue stone pavers and the backsplash make for a thoughtful moment for this focal container.
