POWERED BY PEOPLE | Why VECA?

We sat down with five women from across VECA and asked them about their experiences: Why did you come to VECA? What makes it a great place to work? And what has made you want to continue building your career here?

Their answers were personal, honest, and most of all, real. In each conversation the same themes kept coming up: it’s the people; the opportunity to be challenged and grow; being seen and valued as an individual; and knowing that the people around you genuinely care about your success.

Those experiences are what shape our culture and, ultimately, what have kept VECA moving forward for eight decades.

Driven by Values. Powered by People. Since 1946.

Congratulations to Jesse Chapman, VECA’s Chief Operations Officer, on graduating from the NECA Innovation Institute!

Over the past year, Jesse has been part of the Murray Cohort, working alongside industry leaders to explore new approaches to innovation and problem-solving in electrical construction.

For his Capstone Project, Jesse focused on AI and how VECA can thoughtfully integrate new solutions and workflows to better support our teams. As technology continues to evolve, we’re finding better ways to work while staying grounded in the VECA Values and culture that have always guided us.

Laura Rannow, our CAO, was Jesse’s Executive Sponsor at the event.

Congratulations, Jesse, and to the entire Murray Cohort! We’re excited to see where you take this work next.

Carl Drechsler has worked for VECA for close to a decade and is a Foreman with our Bellingham group, currently working onsite at a major manufacturing facility.

“My favorite part of the job is getting to see so many different areas of the facility. We come across everything from new equipment to some that could be considered antiques! I’m rarely in one spot for long, so I’m always meeting new people and learning more about the processes that go into manufacturing.”

Outside of work, Carl stays busy with his wife and three young boys, ages 2, 6, and 9. Life is busy, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. When he gets some free time, Carl enjoys golfing, hiking, and woodworking in his garage.

Thank you, Carl, for the experience and commitment you bring to VECA and your team.

As part of our VECA Value Empowering Each Other to Succeed, employees are nominated for recognition in our Employee Spotlight feature. We acknowledge the contributions and celebrate the individual strengths of our team members.

Since 1946 | Building Healthcare Across the PNW

VECA entered the healthcare market in the 1990s, beginning more than three decades of work in hospitals and healthcare facilities across the Pacific Northwest.

In that time, our teams have helped build 19 major new hospitals and hundreds of renovations within 24/7 active care environments. That experience includes Swedish First Hill, St. Joseph Medical Center, Tacoma General Hospital, UW Medical Center Roosevelt, Auburn General Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Providence Everett’s Cymbaluk Medical Tower, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Virginia Mason Jones Pavilion, St. Michael Medical Center, and many more.

Today, our teams can be found upgrading and expanding some of the region’s largest and busiest healthcare facilities, including Harborview Medical Center, Western State Hospital, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, and Providence Swedish Hughes Tower.

Healthcare construction has changed over the years, but the responsibility behind the work has not. These are complex environments where safety, planning, and reliable systems support the people providing and receiving care.

For more than 30 years, we’ve been proud to help build and improve healthcare spaces in our communities.

Two VECA Team Members Receive Mortenson STAR Awards

What started as a celebration for one VECA team member quickly turned into a double surprise.

Recently, the project team at UW Medical Center – Northwest gathered to recognize Joel Steele with a Mortenson STAR Award for his work on the Gamma Knife project. Joel was recognized for his field leadership, trade partner collaboration, proactive approach, and the impact he made throughout the project.

As VECA Superintendent Jennifer Johnson shared a few words about Joel and his contributions, the Mortenson team (Aaron Kerns & Bryson Baligad) had another announcement to make: Jennifer also received a STAR Award of her own.

The surprise recognition honored Jennifer for expertise, collaboration, and team leadership throughout the project.

The Gamma Knife project brought advanced medical technology into an active healthcare environment. The specialized treatment space required careful coordination to meet stringent safety requirements while minimizing disruption to ongoing hospital operations.

Mortenson’s STAR Awards recognize trade partners and individuals who go above and beyond in their contributions to project success. Having two VECA employees recognized from the same project makes this an especially meaningful honor for our team.

Congratulations, Joel and Jennifer! We’re proud to see your work and commitment recognized by our project partners at Mortenson.

VECA Electric & Technologies’ 6th Annual Bellingham Golf Tournament was our most successful yet, helping raise more than $20,000!

On August 1, we gathered at Avalon Golf Links in Burlington for a day of golf benefiting Whatcom Community Foundation. More than a fundraiser, this annual tournament is an opportunity to step outside of our day-to-day work and connect with clients, vendors, electricians, and industry partners in a fun and relaxed environment.

This year, we were proud to support Whatcom Community Foundation and its work to strengthen communities throughout Whatcom County. Their commitment to connecting people and resources to address local needs closely aligns with VECA’s values and how we strive to care for the communities where we live and work.

A highlight of the day was hearing from Emma with Whatcom Community Foundation, who shared more about the organization’s mission and the local impact made possible through community support.

Thank you to our Title Sponsor, , and to and for their generous support. We also appreciate every sponsor, donor, golfer, and volunteer who helped make this year’s tournament possible. Your support allows us to bring our industry together while giving back to an organization doing meaningful work in Whatcom County.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We’re already looking forward to next year!

10 wings. 5 minutes. No drinks. 🔥🔥🔥

Wingfest 2026 put our Tools, Fleet, Fab, and Warehouse teams to the test with the Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin’ Challenge—10 wings coated in Blazin’ Knockout Sauce with just five minutes to finish.

Four competitors stepped up to take on the heat, with 16 fans cheering them on. Jeremy Folsom took 1st, Jose Garcia finished 2nd, and Ethan Schuler took 3rd. All three conquered the 10 Blazin’ wings, so it came down to time.

And then there was Marcos “I Only Ate 2 Wings” Silva, who earned an honorable mention and a very fitting Participation Award. 🌶️

Everyone received a custom Wingfest hoodie and our top finishers also took home hand-crafted chicken wing trophies to commemorate the occasion.

The night wasn’t just about hot wings. Wingfest gave our teams a chance to get out of the shop, spend time together, and enjoy some friendly competition. After the wings, the crew headed to the track for go-kart races to close out the night.

Work hard, play hard.

Congratulations to Jeremy, our 2026 Wingfest champion, and thanks to everyone who came out and made it a fun night with the team!
