Fine pruning is one of those things that almost disappears when it’s done well.

A lot of people think bigger cuts = better control, but you can shape for size, structure, light, airflow, and function without taking a hedge trimmer to your entire garden. Subtle, thoughtful adjustments almost always win because they prioritize the long-term health of the plant while working toward a larger vision over time.

Plants respond better to precision, and that’s what I love most about this work. It’s almost meditative; learning how a plant grows and working with it instead of against it.

Rhododendron makeover alert! 🌺✂️

Who knew that a little structural pruning could completely transform the look of a garden? Check out this stunning before and after of a rhodie that was pruned with priorities of size and aesthetic in mind. My client could not believe it was the same plant! It’s amazing what a little TLC can do for your landscape.

I think Georgia O’Keeffe would have been proud of these vibrant Papaver orientale blooms that graced my client’s garden last evening. To me these stunning oriental poppies, a member of the Papaveraceae family, truly embody the essence of spring flowers. The golden hues of the gold thread cypress, aka Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Filifera Aurea’, provided the perfect backdrop for these delicate beauties. 🌸💛🧵

Cercidiphyllum japonicum, also known as the katsura tree, makes for an excellent specimen or shade tree. In the Spring its heart-shaped leaves emerge reddish-purple taking on a beautiful blue-green shade as it matures, and are arranged in a way which creates a stunning 3D effect. Come Fall, it is the star of the show with vibrant yellow and orange foliage and its mesmerizing scent reminiscent of fresh-baked cookies. This tree’s growth habit is captivating both in youth and at maturity! 🌿🍂
