At Bridge Water Bistro in Astoria, Oregon, our intervention introduces steel and glass within the heavy timber frame of a century-old boat-building warehouse. The new elements are intentionally crisp and restrained, creating a clear dialogue between old and new. By contrasting light, transparent materials with the strength and patina of the original old-growth Douglas fir structure, the design celebrates the building's history while giving it a new life.

Every staircase is designed to belong. Shaped by the architecture around it and the people who use it, each one becomes more than a connection between floors—a moment that brings together materials, light, movement, and daily life.

The new kitchen honors the character of this mid-century modern home with a material palette that feels quietly at home. Warm wood cabinetry, natural textures, and restrained detailing complement the original architecture while views of the surrounding forest make the landscape an integral part of everyday life.

Warm, natural materials create a continuous thread through this Seward Park remodel. Cedar wraps the exterior, while walnut carries that warmth indoors, creating a seamless transition between landscape and living spaces. A sculptural steel stair anchors the composition, connecting all three floors and providing a crisp counterpoint to the richness of the wood.
