Known for his decades of work in lighting and furniture design, Randy’s current art practice explores the transformative qualities of metal. Using heat, gravity, and chemical patinas on pure zinc, he captures fleeting moments of material change—creating sculptural pieces that feel both industrial and organic, frozen in time.

We pause to honor Charles Bello and Donlyn Lyndon, who died on the same day a few weeks ago. Two architects with distinct voices and a long legacy, both deeply committed to thoughtful, expressive, place-based design. In addition to their built work, both were educators, bringing their vision to the next generations: Lyndon at Cal Berkeley, and Bello at his own property, the Redwood Forest Institute. Their work continues to shape how we think about our design work, with clarity, restraint, and respect for the land.

We recently wrapped up the Arnie Langberg Memorial Film Series at 108 A&D.

It was a joy to spend time with friends, colleagues, clients, and collaborators, watching beautiful films that inspire and provoke. And to honor my father, a lifelong film connoisseur and educator. He taught me the value of art and community, and how bringing those together can elevate every one of us. His optimism was always an inspiration, more so than ever in these difficult times.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us, and look forward to doing it again next year!

We’re excited to announce there is new work on display at 108 Art & Design — the mixed media pieces of Cynthia Sumner . The space is open during business hours — we’d love for you to stop by and have a look.

Cynthia paints abstracted elements of nature, building layered surfaces with joint compound, acrylic, paper, ink, cold wax, and oil, then scraping them back to reveal what emerges. Working intuitively and often using palette knives, squeegees, and her hands, her tactile process reflects her background in sculpture and design and her long-standing, multidisciplinary art practice.

We’re honored to share that our project Fred Estate has been published in the most recent January/February issue of Sonoma Magazine!

Located in rural Sebastopol, this project envisioned the rehabilitation of a 1940s cabin and duplex, along with a full landscape restoration. The 1,200 sq ft main house was completely reimagined to feel open and light-filled, while reclaimed materials, carefully sourced finishes, and strong indoor-outdoor connections ground the home in its setting. The once neglected property is now restored with native plantings, gardens, orchards, and gathering spaces that bring new life to the land.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting the non-profit group Apis Arborea for the installation of a TreeNest on one of our client’s properties — a beautiful afternoon centered around community and ecological stewardship.

The TreeNest is an arboreal structure designed with biomimicry in mind, offering a regenerative alternative to industrial beekeeping and supporting wild, free-living honeybees in the way they naturally inhabit trees. It was meaningful to see this thoughtful structure installed in the landscape to create habitat, while bringing people together around a shared commitment to caring for the land.

Enjoyed a great start to the inaugural Arnie Langberg Memorial Film Series with a screening of the noir classic The Night of the Hunter at 108 A&D. We were so grateful to fill the space with our community of artists, professionals, clients, and collaborators we’re lucky to call friends.

Thanks to everyone who joined us and made it such a warm and memorable evening. We’re looking forward to the next one, this Thursday, the 26th. Join us!

We’re excited to share a recently completed remodel of a home in Chalk Hill, Healdsburg. What began as a dark structure is now a bright and cohesive retreat with a strong indoor-outdoor connection.

The design focused on opening sight lines out to the renovated pool deck, and the beautiful property beyond. Thoughtful material choices and strategic demolition helped us stay grounded in both design and budget. Take a closer look at how this transformation came together. (Photo by Ned Bonzi).
