Happy Birthday, Brian! You are greatly missed and you will always be the heartbeat of Coates Roofing. Our son, Reagan, sent me this picture of him and his dad this morning.

When I asked for details of the picture this was his reply:

"The cartons were filled with cold leftovers that should've sat in the sun! This was on top of the RAWC at OBU! We re-did the roof in 2013, the tear off was terrible! Even Dad said it was one of the worst jobs he'd done before. The old roof had been pulverized so the material was coming off like a mixture of fiberglass and sand and getting all over us with the Oklahoma wind. Had to wear goggles the entire time and you couldn't wipe your eyes or you could damage them. It was brutal! After a long morning we were sitting eating cold biscuits and beans and Dad told me that his dad told him that he'd look back fondly on working with him and that it'd be the same for me, so we took a picture to commemorate the day. It's one of my favorite memories with him, the fact that the working day was about a hair short of being unbearable makes it that much better." - Reagan

Now, that is good parenting right there! Brian was such a great dad and what a legacy he left! I love the life we built together and I miss him dearly.❤️

Today is special as it marks the 40th anniversary of Coates Roofing Company! My late husband, Brian, was 28 years old when he started it along with two partners. As with many businesses there have been ups and downs throughout the years and changes along the way. In 2017, Brian became sole owner and I joined him full time at the office. I guess I did something right because in 2019, he chose to make me President and majority owner of the corporation. It isn't easy being business partners and husband and wife, but we made the most of it and I will cherish those days forever in my heart.

On our company 35th anniversary, we took the picture that I am holding in the first picture of this post. I felt like it was appropriate to carry on that tradition and take these pictures today. I am still here as President and now, sole owner. Brian always told me that if anything ever happened to him to sell out. He said it was hard with him here and it would be even harder with him gone. Well, he was right. It is very hard, but I have stayed the course with this day in mind, May 1,2025. Even in the middle of my grief, I made a goal to make it to this day to celebrate this monumental occasion and honor Brian. He was the heart of Coates Roofing. We miss him every day and it has been difficult to navigate without him, but I think he would be proud that we are still here.

For those who haven't heard, it is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Brian's passing. He experienced a sudden illness with an infection of the heart valve he had replaced in 2019. He went through open heart surgery again to remove the infected valve and placement of a new one. His body was too sick to recover and he passed away 32 hours after surgery with myself and all of our children and their spouses gathered around him. He was the heart of our family and Coates Roofing Company and we already miss him so much. ❤️ Brian would want you to know that he is in his eternal home in heaven, as he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young boy and lived a life faithful to his Christian beliefs. We know we will see him again one day and we will try to carry on his legacy until then.

This is the first time we have had to lower our flag since we started flying it, and it is sobering. Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the Marines and the Navy Corpsman who lost their lives this week in the line of duty. We live in the land of the free and they are the brave.🇺🇸🪖🎖
