Georgia summers are no joke ☀️ — and they can do a number on your fence if you're not paying attention.
Here are 3 tips to protect your fence this summer and keep it looking great for years to come:
🔎 TIP 1 — INSPECT FOR DAMAGE AFTER STORMS Summer in Georgia means afternoon thunderstorms, high winds, and the occasional fallen branch. After any major storm, walk your fence line and check for:
Leaning or loose posts (a post that rocks even slightly needs attention)
Cracked, split, or broken boards
Rust on hinges, latches, or metal hardware Catching small problems early prevents big repair bills later.
🪵 TIP 2 — SEAL OR STAIN YOUR WOOD FENCE Heat and humidity are the enemies of untreated wood. If your wood fence hasn't been sealed or stained in the last 2–3 years, now is the time. A quality sealant:
Blocks moisture from soaking into the wood grain
Prevents warping, cracking, and rot

🌿 TIP 3 — TRIM BACK VEGETATION ALONG THE FENCE LINE Vines, shrubs, and overgrown grass look harmless, but they trap moisture against your fence boards and posts — which speeds up rot and decay significantly. Make it a habit to:
Keep grass trimmed back at least 2–3 inches from the base of posts
Remove any vines climbing the fence (they work their way into gaps and expand as they grow)
Pull weeds growing directly against posts before they become established.
