The condensate trap is missing. It serves an important purpose although many people throw them away or pull them off with their lawn mower!
The fan on your AC pulls a vacuum just like a vacuum cleaner. It will not let the humidity that the coil collects while running escape the air flow and get out of the house. It dumps in the bottom of the unit and causes it to rust out quickly and also sends alot of the moisture right back into the house. A proper trap will allow moisture to escape without a vacuum and rid your house and unit of all the humidity.
Always make sure yours is intact. It will make your unit last longer, work less, and leave you and your family more comfortable!

This is what my dad did for a spot in a doublewide where a furnace used to be. Now the system is outside and she has alot less noise, no water inside to mess up the flooring, and gained a nice pantry!
