Spring is here in Colorado — and after a dry winter, many lawns are looking stressed. 🌱
If your yard is brown, thin, or slow to green up, it’s likely winter desiccation. With low snow cover and dry conditions, turf didn’t get the moisture it normally relies on. The good news? Most lawns aren’t dead — they’re just stressed.
What your lawn needs right now:
✔️ Deep, infrequent watering once the soil has thawed
✔️ Patience while roots recover
✔️ Proper mowing height (don’t scalp!)
✔️ Professional evaluation before aggressive treatments
What it does not need:
🚫 Dethatching
Dethatching can be extremely hard on already stressed Kentucky bluegrass lawns and may cause more harm than good this spring. In most Colorado lawns, thatch is rarely the real issue — drought stress is.
At Lawn Care of the Rockies, we focus on strengthening root systems and helping your turf recover the right way — not pushing unnecessary services. We do evaluate for thatch, but in most Colorado lawns, aeration and proper watering are the better solution.
If your lawn isn’t bouncing back like you expected, send us a message. We’re happy to take a look and recommend the right plan for your yard. 🌿
