Exterior finishes are not just about appearance, they have to perform.

In climates like East Tennessee, moisture, humidity, and water management are critical. This elevated concrete deck sits over finished space, so waterproofing had to be built into the design from the start.

Instead of relying on multiple layers of materials, we used a concrete admixture that creates waterproofing within the slab itself. This keeps the profile thinner, reduces the risk of cracking, and simplifies the overall system.

Get to know Casey, the construction manager at pinkSTONE who handles scheduling, inspections, subcontractor agreements, and keeping projects on track from start to finish.

If you ask him what he really does? “Babysit grown men.” 😂 Between managing job sites and pushing projects forward, Casey says the most unbelievable thing this week was actually seeing progress because “most people don’t make any.”

This kitchen may look simple, but every detail was carefully considered long before the finishes go in.

We approached this space through a structural engineering and construction-first mindset. Mapping out framing layouts, window placements, and mechanical coordination early in the design process. Every element was planned to maximize natural light, improve functionality, and ensure efficient installation during the build phase, reducing delays and field adjustments.

A lot of planning went into making sure this kitchen feels bright, functional, and clean while also simplifying the construction process on the back end.

This home started as a sketch in a construction trailer.

What you don’t see in that sketch are the hours behind it—the late nights, the redraws, the moments of “this isn’t it yet.” The waterLINE build pushed us. There were ideas that almost worked, plans that had to be scrapped, and times we had to completely reroute. That’s the reality of designing at a high level in construction and structural engineering...perfection takes work!

And then… it clicked.

One moment where everything finally aligned. The layout, the structure, the way the home would live and flow. From there, it became one of the most detailed framing projects we’ve ever designed, with over 24 sheets of construction drawings just for the downstairs alone. Every inch was thought through, calculated, and refined.

What you see being built now is the result of hours most people will never see: the problem-solving, the precision, the commitment to getting it right.

And when framing started going up, it all came together even better than we imagined. Every level, every plane just made sense!

The best builds aren’t rushed, they’re earned.
