As summer break continues, many of our children are spending more time online connecting with friends, playing games, and exploring the internet. While the online world offers many great opportunities, it also presents real dangers. Unfortunately, there are individuals who use the internet to target and exploit children.
We encourage every parent and guardian to take an active role in their child’s online activity. Staying engaged and having regular conversations can make all the difference in keeping them safe.
Here are a few simple ways you can help protect your child:
●Know which apps, games, and websites they are using.
●Talk with them about internet safety and the dangers of communicating with strangers online.
●Review privacy settings and use parental controls whenever possible.
●Encourage your child to come to you or another trusted adult if someone online makes them feel uncomfortable or asks for personal information.
Protecting our children is a responsibility we all share. A few minutes of conversation and supervision today can help prevent serious problems tomorrow.
