Thanks to all who braved the weather for our Kids in the Garden event! Together we made observations about soil, roots and colors, planted flower & vegetable starts and "chaos planted" several varieties of carrots and radishes. Keep an eye on our socials for info on other Kids in the Garden events throughout the summer!

Applications are due by April 15th. Individuals, families and community groups are invited to become members. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a first timer, you are welcome at the garden! We ask that you only submit one entry per household. Beds will be assigned using a random drawing. Applicants will be notified by email whether they've been assigned a bed, or if they are on the waiting-list.

Today we had SO MUCH FUN welcoming local kids to the garden for our FIRST EVER Kids in the Garden program! We were thrilled to have 11 kids ages 1-9 participate. Together we explored using all of our senses, learned proper harvesting techniques, ate carrots + peas and played in the dirt. We're already looking forward to doing it again! Stay tuned for future Kids in the Garden events coming soon!

NEW for 2025! This summer Seward's Community Garden by the Bay is excited for the new addition of our Children's Garden - a dedicate growing space JUST FOR KIDS! We are hosting our first "Kids in the Garden" event on Friday, August 1st. Space is limited and advanced sign-up is required (use link below to sign-up).
During "Kids in the Garden" we'll play in the dirt, explore using our senses, learn about what growing in our garden, and we'll harvest and taste some fresh grown produce. Thank you to all our members and supporters - we are thrilled to be kicking off our 9th summer at Garden by the Bay! This garden wouldn't exist without the support of Seward Community Foundation, Seward Prevention Coalition, University of Alaska Fairbanks and our amazing community of Seward!

Many Alaskan communities face different challenges when it comes to gardening, including short seasons, cold nights, and in the case of Seward, not enough dirt.
