From the May 24 issue of The Week. (That's my way of saying, don't blame me for this, I'm not the author). You might have heard that about a trillion cicadas are supposed to be emerging this Spring. It's one of the few times when the 13 year cycle and the 17 year cycle coincide. Cicadas are not dangerous, but they're loud and annoying. If they bother you too much, here's something you can do: Eat them! Yes, they're very closely related to lobsters and shrimp, and you know how much you love lobsters and shrimp. You can use cicadas in any recipe that calls for shrimp. Garlic shrimp, shrimp scampi, fried shrimp...No wait, that should read, Garlic cicada, cicada scampi, fried cicada. Scatter them over a salad for a bit of a crunch. No go on any of those ideas? OK, chocolate cover them for a great dessert, or bake them into cookies.
