In Buffalo Grove, a clogged dryer vent caused a home fire resulting in minimal damage and no injuries. Residents were allowed into the home once it was ventilated.
A dryer fire in an Oak Park animal shelter was quickly extinguished by a volunteer before I was able to spread. No animals were injured, but the shelter is in need of an upgraded fire alarm system to ensure the safety of 40 – 60 cats living there.
In Post Falls, Idaho, a dryer fire led to the evacuation of a school and cancellation of classes so firefighters could set up fans and remove smoke from the building.
Dryer vent cleaning may have prevented these fires. Thankfully, no one was injured. Things could have been much worse. Dryer fires tend to burn very hot and spread rapidly through dryer ducts inside the walls. Lint is highly flammable and adds fuel to the flames.
