🚨 Turf Alert: Ascochyta Leaf Blight 🚨
We’ve been seeing signs of Ascochyta Leaf Blight popping up in our area….a turf disease that affects cool-season grasses like Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, and perennial ryegrass. It can cause large patches of grass to suddenly look straw-colored, dry, or scorched, especially after mowing.
What causes it?
This disease is often triggered by environmental stress like sudden temperature swings, poor soil, or improper mowing and watering daily or at night.
👉 What can you do?
Instead of reaching for a fungicide right away, we recommend adjusting a few key lawn care practices:
•Mow high: Keep your mowing height around 3.5-4 inches to reduce stress on the turf.
•Water deep and infrequently: Give your lawn a good soak (around 1 inch) once or twice a week, rather than frequent shallow watering.
•Avoid mowing wet grass: Mowing when the lawn is wet can spread the disease and worsen symptoms.
📸 We’ve included some photos from lawns we’ve seen impacted. Feel free to reach out if you think your yard might be showing signs. The last photo is a before/after of a lawn we helped recover with the practices mentioned above. We’re happy to assess and offer guidance.
