Traditional vacuum generation results in two fixed levels – either fully on or fully off. Proportional pneumatics provide infinitely adjustable vacuum levels, delivering only what is need for a particular object’s weight, porosity and surface finish. Rather than being restricted to the maximum amount of air, proportional pneumatics reduce air consumption, saving both energy and money.

Unlike manual flow controls, the vacuum level can also be adjusted mid-cycle. An initial spike in vacuum can be used to pick up a product, with an immediate reduction taking place after it is secured in order to reduce air consumption. When setting the object back down, the process can take place gently, with a slow reduction in vacuum level to handle delicate objects with care.

Beyond these savings, the ability to adjust vacuum level from the PLC/HMI enables machine designers to make exact adjustments on the fly without having to shut down a machine. The result is quicker changeovers between different products, increased safety by not having to climb in/on a machine and the ability to remotely access these adjustments. In the following video, the flow through remote vacuum ejector is proportionally controlled using an Enfield PFV valve, showing the ease at which this level of functionally can be added to an existing setup or new design.

Enfield’s S2 positioning system and SICK’s new MPS-C sensor make a simple task out of giving pneumatic cylinders the capabilities of electric drives. Able to directly mount into the c-slots on cylinders, like the SMC CDQ2 shown in this video, this combination allows for quicker conversion without additional brackets, added flags or complex geometries.

The result is a quick, powerful pneumatic servo system that is capable of moving heavy loads at high speeds yielding a significant cost savings over comparable electric drive systems. All of this is possible while maintain the benefits of pneumatics: simple, cost-effective and powerful control in a compact package.

The TR electronic pressure regulator (E/P & I/P) sets the pressure in the back of an air cylinder to increase or decrease the force the cylinder applies and the resultant spring height. Rapidly responding to external disturbances, the TR is ideal for challenging applications, quickly exhausting or pressurizing back to the correct pressure.

Able to respond in less than three milliseconds, engineers are no longer required to trade speed for accuracy - they are now simultaneously achievable. This makes the TR regulator ideal for tensioners, dancers, material testing, part insertion, weld clamping, gripping, part ejection, ultrasonic & resistance welding and force control applications.

In the following demonstration, the TR electronic pressure regulator (EPR) shows where it excels: fast (less than 2.5ms), repeatable (~0.1%) pressure control. Submerged in water and without missing a beat, the TR rapidly switches between pressure set-points of 20 & 80 and 70 & 90 psi.

Being both quick and accurate, the TR is ideal for applications where precise pressure regulation, even under changing conditions is important: welding, valve piloting, spraying, calibrating and dispensing, to name a few. The ability to quickly exhaust or pressurize on demand reduces results in lower scrap rates, higher yields and significant process improvements.

The TR Servo Pneumatic Pressure Control System is an all-in-one electronic pressure regulator (E/P & I/P) that converts a voltage or current input into a precise, proportional pressure output. With its internal voice-coil technology, the TR’s high bandwidth/fast response time make it ideal for applications that require quick, accurate pressure control.

This video shows the ability of the TR to control pressure set points or dynamic profiles making it ideal for integration with PLCs. As the dial adjusts the voltage input (pressure command) to the regulator, the regulator quickly and linearly adjusts the pressure in the reservoir. The result is a synchronous tracking between the pressure commanded from the dial and the actual pressure displayed on the gauge.

Accurate fluid metering is achieved with an Enfield Technologies’ TR-010-g10-s proportional pressure regulator piloting a RF aiRFlex pinch valve. By increasing or decreasing the pilot pressure, the TR-010-g10-s I/P is able to adjust the opening of the pinch valve and the resultant amount of liquid flowing through.

In this video, a 0…25 psi range (scaled down from the full 0…145 psi range) is controlled with an inverted 4…20mA control signal. Both the scaling and inverting operations were preformed and saved within the TR valve software to allow for a direct drop-in without changing existing PLC code or infrastructure.

Material handling is made quicker and more efficient when a single pneumatic rotary actuator can stop at multiple locations, allowing the actuator’s angle to be set from the PLC with the push of a button. In the following video, an Enfield S2 positioning system, Parker B671 rotary actuator and SICK MPA sensor combine together to create this adjustable system.

In this video, the speed of the air motor is controlled and adjusted by varying the opening of the LS-V15s proportional valve. Capable of adjusting flow through either single or bi-directional air motors or actuators, the LS-V15s adds greater flexibility to equipment than can be achieved with manual flow controls with only a single fixed setting. High speed adjustments can be made on the fly as part of a PLC routine or in response to changing information coming in from feedback sensors or downstream information.

In this video a Parker Hannifin SRX cylinder with internal Linear Resistive transducer (LRT) feedback is being controlled by an Enfield S2 positioning system. This allows the stroke of the cylinder to be set from the analog output of the PLC, allowing for adjustment from the HMI or from within a program.

With an Enfield S2 positioning system controlling the motion of both the horizontal rodless and vertical cylinders of the pneumatic pick and place, the PLC is capable of coordinating the motion of the cylinders. This takes two regular pneumatic cylinders and gives them electric drive capabilities with the cost and simplicity of pneumatics.

This video demonstration shows how the S2 positioning system can be used for applications such a product pick and place and edge guide positioning. With proportional pneumatic positioning, the same machine can run variable sized products, lower overall equipment cost and cut down on floor space required.

In this version of the Deflator Creator, Enfield’s proportional pneumatic valve, the LS-V05s combined with the C1 controller, regulates the pressure inside of the football. An analog Omega pressure transducer was used to measure pressure to the C1 controller, while the command signal was sent from the team dependent buttons.

Enfield’s proportional valves and controls are capable of quickly, 2.5ms, and accurately, 0.2% FS, controlling pressure within a fixed volume.
