Most people only notice drainage problems after the damage is done.

Standing water near the foundation, soggy spots in the yard, or water that runs toward the house instead of away from it can quietly cause bigger issues over time — including cracked concrete and foundation stress.

Proper grading and drainage aren’t the flashy part of a project, but they’re one of the most important. Getting the water to go where it’s supposed to go protects everything else you build.

If you’ve got areas that stay wet or drain the wrong direction, it’s worth looking at before the next round of heavy rain.

Quick tip from the field:

That cracked driveway or patio you’ve been ignoring?

Water gets in, freezes, and makes it worse every winter. Plus, trying to shovel or plow uneven concrete is no fun.

We’ve got about 138 days until winter. Still time to get it fixed before the cold sets in.

How long does a typical concrete project actually take?

A lot of people are surprised by the answer.

For most residential jobs (driveways, patios, sidewalks), the active work is usually completed in 2 to 4 days, depending on size and site conditions. Here’s a realistic breakdown:

• Site prep, excavation & grading – often 1 day
• Forming – usually the same day or next
• Pouring & finishing – 1 day
• Initial curing – the concrete needs protection for the first several days

While the major work happens quickly, concrete continues to gain strength over the following weeks. That’s why we always talk about both the construction timeline and the curing time.

Weather, access, and the complexity of the site can all affect the schedule — which is why we walk through the full timeline before we start.

It’s been hot out there — and if you’re working on outdoor projects around the house, it’s easy to underestimate how much the heat takes out of you.

A few things that help (these are the same habits we use on our job sites):
• Drink fluids regularly, even when you don’t feel thirsty
• Take extra breaks in the shade
• Use electrolytes, not just water
• Keep hydrating into the evening — recovery matters

Heat stress sneaks up on people. Whether you’re doing yard work, prepping for a patio, or just trying to get a project done, pace yourself and listen to your body.

We’re out in the same heat every day, so we take it seriously. Stay safe out there.

Concrete isn’t one-size-fits-all. There are a lot of options depending on what you need and how the space will be used.

For homeowners, we commonly do driveways, patios, pool decks, and sidewalks — and we can do stamped or stained concrete when you want something with more character.

For commercial and industrial work, we handle parking lots, loading docks, reinforced slabs, tank foundations, and equipment pads. We also take care of the site work that often goes along with it — excavation, grading, and drainage.

Whatever the project, we can walk you through the best options for your needs and budget.

We’re a newer company, but we’re not new to this work.

David has over 35 years of hands-on experience in concrete and construction — including many years running projects at Caldwell Tanks and owning his own construction company before that. William, our son, has solid field experience and oversees our jobs in the field, and I handle the operations side with a practical, detail-focused approach.

We’re honest about where we are as a business, but we’re also confident in the experience we bring to every job. That combination matters when you’re trusting someone with work on your home or property.
