Stay safe. Don't travel unless necessary. If you're out shoveling later, wear hi-viz clothing especially if you're near a road, shared driveway, etc. And for your gardens in the spring - look at where all that snow goes. Where water pools and turns to ice. Take some photos not only for the wow factor, but to remember, when planning after it's all melted away.

In honor of our clients, Four Springs Landscape and Garden, LLC has donated to the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation for 2025. In our opinion, Xerces actively and effectively advocates and acts for a better planet, a better ecology. They stay close to a well-defined mission, and provide loads of science-based information on how to effectively protect our shared environment.

The Xerces Society is a science-based nonprofit organization that protects wildlife through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.

This photo is the plant in Four Springs' logo. Spiraea tomentosa, aka Hardhack, hackmatack, or Steeplebush. A plant found in transition spaces from forest to field, as something perfectly happy as a native growing shrub or garden specimen, it evokes the transition between the natural world and horticulture's purpose-built world.

Ticks are numerous and active. Wear bright colored clothing, avoid barberry / brush / stone walls, take a hot shower soon after coming indoors and check for ticks.

I've been tending these apple trees since 2018. Note the thinning for airflow and light, and encouragement of horizontals (should produce more apples) and a fuller, rounder shape especially of tree #2.
