Woah, look at that thatch! Not sure what thatch is? Or why it’s good to dethatch? Let us help!

Thatch buildup can be caused by several factors. Sometimes Certain grass species are especially prone to thatch production, but acidic soils may not be able to support sufficient populations of decomposing microorganisms. And certain fungicides can stimulate excessive root and rhizome growth and some of the insecticides used may reduce earthworm activity, leading to decreased bioturbation.

Did you know: A small amount of thatch may provide a beneficial insulating effect against fluctuations in temperature and moisture. (However, excessive thatch can cause root problems and lawn mower difficulties.)

We recommend dethatching in the spring, or in the fall, to help your lawn breath and be it’s healthiest self!
