Today isn’t just about a long weekend. It’s about the men who never made it home.

This Memorial Day, I’m remembering my friend and fellow Marine, Lance Corporal John E. Hale of Shreveport, Louisiana. John was killed in combat operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq on October 6, 2006 while serving with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines.

I also served in 2/8 infantry, and Memorial Day always hits different for those of us who knew men like John personally. Brave. Loyal. The kind of Marine you never forget.

As we spend time with family this weekend, let’s remember the true cost of freedom and honor the heroes who gave everything for this country. 🇺🇸
