Plant them before they’re gone!
Native hyssops, or hummingbird mints, are in the Agastache genus. I’ll be at the Silver City Farmers' Market tomorrow from 9 to 12:00, next to Gough Park.
Native, sun-loving, drought- tolerant, deer-resistant plants for pollinators.

I watched a couple of variegated fritillary’s and other small butterflies visit the Engelmann’s Daisy, the blanketflower, the Chiricahua goldeneye, the purple coneflower and the potentilla.
Meanwhile the hummingbird was a little too shy to visit the Penstemon barbatus and TX Ranger when I approached.

Help the pollinators by restoring what was lost in the Trout Fire. I will have these native perennials tomorrow at the Silver City Farmers' Market. Many originated from locally collected seed from the GNF.
Pictured in bloom are scarlet bugler (Penstemons barbatus), Chiricahua goldeneye (viguiera spp.), blanketflower (gaillardia aristata), and parry’s penstemon.

Plant of The Week! 🧡

Common name: Hummingbird Bush

Scientific name: Anisacanthus quadrifidus var. wrightii

Native range: West and south-central Texas into adjacent northern Mexico.

This deciduous shrub may appear modest during the winter when it loses its leaves. Still, as soon as the summer heat and occasional rains arrive, it transforms into an explosion of color, producing an abundance of bright red or orange tubular flowers that not only beautify the landscape but also serve as an essential ecological function.

The flowers are especially attractive to hummingbirds, which visit the plants regularly to feed on nectar. The elongated shape and striking color act as a direct signal to these pollinators. Butterflies and some native bees also visit for a drink.

A great afternoon to w**d, with the cooling storm winds….
1. First photo, going clockwise, shows wild cosmos, probably cosmos parviflorus. It is an annual that has irritating seeds that cling to clothing. It does have a pretty pink flower though, which I’m sure attracts pollinators. However, I don’t want it here.
2. There are 3 plants in the front of the yucca, the 2 on the right are the w**ds. They are probably Kochia, bassia scoparia. The one on the left is lizards tail primrose, oenothera curtiflora.
3. Another lizards tail. They get really tall, attract pollinators and finches love the seeds. Some folks consider them “w**dy”, but we love them.
4. This one is an annual salvia, probably saw-tooth sage or salvia subincisa. Pops up here and there. We like its little purple flowers.
5. The last one is a native milkw**d, antelope horns or Asclepias asperula. Definetly a keeper. Super cool flower and the monarchs lay their eggs on it. I was not able to grow it this year for the nursery.

I have these for sale in 1 gal and 2 gal pots—Fernbush. Lovely shrub that attracts a diverse array of pollinators. It is growing all over the south rim of the Grand Canyon and many other areas in AZ.
