What's a mountain home without a fireplace?

These four fireplaces come from our AGL project series in Frisco. We designed two duplexes, four homes total, all around a mountain modern direction. Not every homeowner would want the same thing, so even with a shared concept, each home ended up with its own unique personality.

Even a spec home deserves a personalized outcome.

Three design misconceptions put to use in one project.

We often hear that bold patterns can shrink a space, open floor plans can feel cold, and that neutral is getting boring. What if we told you we had a project that would change your mind about these misconceptions?

In this home, we made an open great room feel welcoming with a textile scheme that brought in color and coordinated with the surrounding finishes. We kept a neutral bedroom exciting with pops of color and contrasting grey tones. Lastly, we proved that a bold pattern in a bathroom tile that calls back to the vanity creates big personality.

A closer look at this Silverthorne kitchen and basement remodel.

This home started as a second home. It's now built for full-time living, for a family spanning several generations. That meant expanding both the main and lower levels and reworking the layout so gathering and entertaining actually have room to happen.

Upstairs, the kitchen moved from a traditional look to a fresh slate blue cabinets. Downstairs, unfinished storage became a finished hallway and the wet bar you may have already seen.

Same home. A different way of living in it.

Not everyone knows what the next few months of working with a designer actually look like.

Here's what to expect when working with .design: a real vision before anything is finalized, every detail decided with intention, a team managing the logistics so less falls on you mid-project, and a final walkthrough before we call it done.

This Jack and Jill bath in Frisco started on paper with a different vision and landed on something better: the client's exact preference.

Concept boards set the tone and direction for a project before ordering materials becomes a part of the equation. This helps us start a conversation with all of our clients, narrowing in on what they love and what they don't. From there, the design evolves naturally over the course of the project. This is how we are able to help our clients successfully bring their vision to life.

For this project, a few adjustments along the way made all the difference.

For this bathroom, we picked a color and committed to it.

While the blue tile makes a statement, we grounded it with dark, contrasting stone and a subtle ash brown stain on the poplar cabinetry.

When coordinating finishes, we always go back to design school basics and lean on color theory. There's nothing better than watching a color palette come together like this.

Save this for your next blue bathroom inspo. đź’™

Every functional space deserves a moment of design.

This wet bar sits just off the upper level gathering space, and two details do the heavy lifting: floating shelves with LED lighting keep the space open, and a matte black bar faucet that grounds the warm wood tones around it. No upper cabinets crowding the sightline. No clutter competing with the finishes.

Small nooks like this are where proportions matter most. Every drawer, every light strip, every faucet placement gets considered against the whole room.

Would you display your mugs and glassware on open, lit shelves like this, or keep them tucked behind cabinet doors?

A good view deserves a room that earns it.

We've worked with this family three times before. This time, they asked us to help create a home away from home for their whole crew.
In this room, we enlarged the windows to bring in more light and open up the mountain view from where you sit.

Small structural changes, but they change how the whole space feels.

What would you change first if this were your living room?

This Frisco home was built for a family that keeps growing.

The harder part wasn't designing something new. It was making it feel like it had always been part of the house.

We used materials from the original part of the home in the addition, then blended in new materials to keep it updated and fresh. One example is the chinking between the wood planks, carried through from the original space. That mix is what made the line between old and new disappear.

That's what a multigenerational retreat should feel like: welcoming, not staged.

A good foyer stays functional (and beautiful) in every season.

We designed this Frisco spec home foyer before we knew who'd be living there. That meant leaning into what holds up no matter who moves in, or when. It had to work in ski season and mud season alike, for a family we hadn't met yet.

Is your foyer working for you all year round?
