Do you need help figuring out what ideas you can implement to help make sure that your roof holds up to the test of time, rather than lasting for a decade or so and then spouting up a million different issues? Well, here's our advice - based on nearly two decades of experience within the roofing industry:

Just as often as not, our customers aren't caught unawares by their roofing issues: they realized, on some level, that they were ignoring their roof, and that there were possibly issues right above their head (literally), but they just put their blinders on and ignored it. It can be so easy to ignore the state that your roof is in, especially when there isn't a storm blowing through that makes all of the issues in your roof glaringly apparent.

Instead of being like everyone else, and not paying attention to your roof until there is a massive issue staring you in the face, we highly recommend calling up a few local roofers. The goal here is to find someone who you can trust, and to hire them to come do a roof inspection twice yearly, so that when any issues pop up in your roof, they can address them before they grow into bigger problems.

This is one of the things that we recommend to everyone, including our own family members. Hiring a trusted roofing contractor to come look at your roof once or twice annually is the best way to prevent big roofing problems from sneaking up on you.

Hey Simi Valley, we’re back with Part 3 of our series on whether you need roof replacement or repair. In this series, we’ve been covering some of the most important factors to consider when you are thinking of replacing or repairing your roof. In the first post we covered the age of your roof, in our last post we covered the type of roof that you have, and now we will talk about how long you plan to stay in your current home.

If you plan to stay in your home for another 10+ years and are already dealing with issues with your roof or have had to do repairs, then it’s a very good idea to have a qualified roofer come out and take a look at it to see what needs to be done. It would also be good to have a roofer come out twice annually, to ensure that if any issues pop up, they are quickly addressed.

Hey Simi Valley! Here’s Part 2 of our series on “How to Know when You Need Roof Replacement vs Roof Repair”. In our last post we talked about the age of your roof and how that can impact whether you need a repair or full replacement. Now we’ll discuss the type of roof that you have, and how that impacts things.

There are many different types of roofing available, and each of them have their own typical lifespans:

Asphalt Shingles: Most asphalt shingles roofs will last between 15 to 30 years. These are one of the most common roof types.

Metal Roofing: Most metal roofs last between 20 to 50 years, but more premium types of metal roofing can last even longer than this. But metal roofing tends to cost more.

Clay Tile Roofing: Clay tile roofs often last 30 to 50+ years, depending on how well they are maintained.

There are many other types of roofs, but these basic guidelines should give you a basic idea of how long your roof may last, based on the type of roof that it is. Of course, these numbers can vary drastically based on how well your roofing contractor installed your roofing, and whether you have any normal upkeep and inspections.

Hey Simi Valley! We often get the question “How do I know when my roof just needs a repair, versus when it needs to be fully replaced?”

Let’s tackle that. There’s a few things to consider: The age of your roof, the type of roof you have, how long you plan to live in the home, and the problems you’re dealing with.

Age: If your roof is over 15 to 20 years old, though you might not necessarily need to get it replaced, that is oftentimes the lifetime for lower-end shingles. Around this time, it’s best to have a local roofing company take a look to see if it’s time to get things repaired or replaced.

We will cover the three other factors in our next posts…
