📣 Important Notice for Homeowners in St. Tammany Parish

We want to share an update that affects many of us — the parish has passed a new ordinance regarding sewer systems in the unincorporated areas. You can read the full ordinance here:

What’s changing?
• The parish now requires more frequent inspections and maintenance of individual on-site sewage treatment systems.
• The parish will check compliance more often, and property owners will need to certify that their systems are properly maintained.
• These steps are being taken to help protect our health, our waterways, and the environment.

We understand this might feel frustrating or like an extra burden — especially if you already maintain your system regularly. Please know:
• You’re not alone.
• These changes are big because the parish has the largest number of individual sewerage systems in the state.
• We’re here to support you: answer questions, help you understand what you need to do, and refer you to qualified professionals.
• Our goal is to make the transition as smooth as possible for you.

What you can do right now:
1. Review the ordinance link above to get familiar with the requirements.
2. Check your system’s maintenance history and receipts: when was it last inspected or pumped?
3. If you’re unsure or haven’t had maintenance recently, schedule an inspection or service before you get flagged.
