Sometimes the problem isn’t so easy to locate. The burned wires in the box make you think a loose connection was the culprit. Not this time! The problem was behind the box. It could have easily resulted in a fire! The breaker didn’t trip

I’m working on helo pad lights. I Have to stop and pick up all the light weight materials every time the get a call. And they get alot more calls than I realized.

In 2012-2016, electrical distribution or lighting equipment was involved in 35,100 reported home structure fire, on average, per year.
These fires involved equipment such as wiring, lighting, cords and plugs.
Electrical distribution or lighting equipment ranked first in direct property damage, and third among the major fire causes in the number of home fires, and tied for third in home fire deaths and home fire injuries.

Ok, please forgive the rant.
As I arrived at a home to give an estimate and troubleshoot lighting that flickers, a carpenter was installing electrical conduit and connecting outlets. I don’t usually, but I have begun to report unlicensed work to Texas Department of License and Regulation. So as I took a picture, he approached me and was quite disturbed. Hey, if your doing honest work, no problem. He denied doing any electrical work, but the homeowner said the guy told him, “yes, I can put him n some plugs, a switch and some lights”.
Unfortunately he has no permit, license or insurance to install electrical in the city of Smihville or our wonderful state. He then took his roll of wire and hid it in the homeowner’s garage.
I have worked very hard and hard to get my license and the cost of insurance is crazy. People installing electrical without a license, HAVE NO INSURANCE. I have found the price is sometimes the same or higher than what we charge. A large percentage of the time, we are called to repair what someone else has done.
Please ask for a license (all electricians are required to carry their license) before you allow a “handy man” to install your electrical.
The results of a non professional doing electrical work is sometimes ok and sometimes results in a fire. Please don’t take a chance.
