Keep Electricity Away From Water

Summer is right around the corner, which means pools, sprinklers, pressure washers, patio fans, outdoor lights, and extension cords are all getting put to work.

But here’s your friendly reminder: water and electricity do not play nice.

Before you plug anything in outside, make sure your outdoor outlets are GFCI-protected, weather-covered, and in good working condition. Keep cords away from pools, puddles, wet grass, and sprinkler areas — and never ignore an outlet that keeps tripping.

That GFCI trip may be annoying, but it could also be doing exactly what it’s supposed to do: protecting you and your family.
