Swipe to the end to see the cutest “before” photo 🩶
We finished this entry area built-in project ages ago, and I’m just now posting the official “after” photos. These are stock cabinets from Lowe’s, and we poured a white cement countertop. I had the bench seat cushion custom made, and it’s so handy for taking shoes on and off.
And, oh my gosh, all the extra storage is amazing!

Check out this tool that makes pulling HEAVY and awkward cemented posts out of the ground a one person job. Yep, pulling these out and re-pouring cement is the hard way, AND it’s the right way! This fence won’t be going anywhere for a looong time.

Something I have the opportunity to do occasionally in projects where we are replacing the countertop, is make adjustments to the size and shape. Adjustments like this can improve the function and/or create more surface space.
Here we adjusted the size and shape of the bar level countertop. Also a small detail that I like to watch out for is how can we achieve maximum counterspace and functionality without having to add additional support brackets underneath. The clean lines and simplicity make such a difference!
Here you can see the templating process our amazing countertop partner does to ensure perfect cuts and fit.

Katie here again!
A few weeks ago I posted some mid-project progress at this home. It was completed last month and here are the before and after photos 💎
This project included lots of paint (interior and exterior), new light fixtures and interior door hardware (was time to update from brass), and finally, a good cleaning and staging.
The homeowner was delightful to partner with, and he did a ton of work cleaning out the house to prepare for its transformation. Photos #7 and #8 are the SAME ROOM!!

Disclaimer: this is a renovation project that I planned, designed, and hired contractors for, while Kevin is busy doing other projects of his own!

Hi, it’s Katie!
How do we feel about this tile floor?
While Kevin is busy doing lots of handymanning, I’ve been doing interior design and reno projects for folks who are going to sell their home.
One of the questions that comes up a lot is: do we update or leave it alone?
Generally I’m an advocate for leaving things that are in good condition. If they’re outdated AND damaged we’ll replace.
This floor is in good shape. I’m thinking about giving it a good cleaning and leaving it. Trends of the 80’s are on the cusp of being cool again, right?

I’ll add that we don’t have a big budget on this one!

We love a busy job site!
This 1990s house needed some additional love after having most of the walls painted a neutral white several months ago. We opted to paint all the worn dark brown trim and doors, and next we’ll install new light fixtures.
The homeowner said the first time his family pulled up to the house, his wife knew right away it was meant to be theirs, and described it as “our farmhouse.”
So that inspired my entry way and dining light fixture choices - just a little nod to the farmhouse sentiment. Additionally, it’s going to coordinate well with the new soft gray exterior paint.
Big transformation on this one!
