Oceanside California has a beautiful little enclave of French Normandy style homes called San Malo. It was started in the early 1900's and grew somewhat over the years but remains an exclusive retreat where families can enjoy a small village atmosphere and grow family memories and traditions. SDI has been honored to serve the good people of San Malo since the early 1980's, having built a large number of these lovely beach-side get aways, and maintained and refurbished a good bit more. It's with great sadness of heart that SDi must announce the recent passing of one of their own: Donn Olson.

Donn retired several years ago after a long and excellent career with Steigerwald-Dougherty. He was an original member of the SDI team.

He as an excellent custom home builder and so much more.

To give you an idea of who Donn was to many of us here at SDI....below is a short note from Don Steigerwald, who was blessed to be an apprentice of Donn's beginning in 1982 and lasting for many years. Donn has been and will now always be missed!

Donn Olson you were an excellent carpenter and even better superintendent and yet more than that, you were a good person, A NICE GUY....in a world with so many who don't see "nice" as a viable option...you shined and prived it was possible.
Your kindness and gentleness are etched on my mind and heart and your good example is something I strive to emulate.
Thank you for all you taught me.
May God bless your family in this time of mourning and letting go.
You will be missed......don steigerwald

Hooray! Lumber is on it's way back down. Although, it's still UP 20% from where it was this time last year, it is now 60% less expensive than it was in June! Quite the roller coaster! Let's hope it keeps dropping so we can get building costs back to the reasonable range!

The lumber market is beginning to return to normal. There are still shortages in wire, circuit breakers, some electrical conduit and long lead times on many appliances and other such
things.

So, although it may not be a great time to start a remodel or building project, it IS a great time to start planning for yours.
