The first chilly mornings of fall are a reminder of how much you rely on your heating system. If your boiler needed frequent repairs last winter or you’re wondering whether it’s ready for another season, October is a good time to get answers.

A boiler installation involves more than setting a new unit in place. Our technicians also work through the piping and connections that help the system serve the home. If your boiler has been giving you trouble, McAllister can assess it and help you decide whether service or replacement makes sense. Book online today at https://mcservice.com/

Turning on the heat and feeling cool air can leave you wondering whether your system got the message. A brief cool draft at startup can be normal, but air that never warms up deserves a closer look.

We asked one of our expert technicians what could be happening:
“When your heating system first starts, you may feel cool air that was sitting in the ducts before the warm air reaches your vents. That should pass quickly. If the air stays cool or your home isn’t reaching the temperature you’ve set, there could be a thermostat issue or a problem inside the equipment. That’s when we recommend having us take a look to find out what’s keeping your system from heating properly.”

A little warmup time is one thing. A home that stays chilly is another. Schedule a heating service visit and let our experts help bring the warmth back.

The leaves are changing, the mornings are chilly, and someone in the house has officially been appointed head of thermostat security. 🍂

“It’s too early for the heat.”
“Put another sweatshirt on.”
“Grab a blanket.”

Meanwhile, someone’s bundled up on the couch, waiting for the thermostat guardian to leave the room so they can make their move.

What finally ends the debate in your house: a certain temperature, a certain date, or one very determined family member?

Fully charged? Time to unplug.
It is easy to leave a phone, laptop, tablet, or other rechargeable device connected long after the battery reaches 100 percent. However, leaving it plugged in longer than needed can create additional heat and place extra stress on its lithium-ion battery.
Try to charge devices while you are awake and nearby. Once charging is complete, unplug the device instead of leaving it connected overnight or while no one is home. This also gives you the chance to notice if the charger or device becomes unusually warm.
Before Fire Prevention Week comes to an end, take a look at your everyday charging habits. One small change, like unplugging when the battery is full, can become an easy part of your regular routine.
Safe charging is a superpower. Small action. Big impact.

Your rechargeable devices can give you warning signs when something is wrong. Knowing what to look for can help you act before the problem becomes more serious.
Stop using a device right away if its battery feels unusually warm, smells strange, makes popping or hissing noises, changes shape or color, begins to swell, leaks, or produces smoke. These can all be signs that the lithium-ion battery is damaged or failing.
If it is safe to do so, unplug the device and move it away from anything that can catch fire. Do not continue using or charging it to see if the problem goes away. If the device begins smoking or catches fire, move away from the area and call 911.
Phones, laptops, toys, and other devices can be replaced. Your safety cannot. Pay attention when a battery tells you something is not right.

Today's Fire Prevention Week tip is all about where you charge your devices.
Charging your phone next to you on the couch or leaving a tablet plugged in on the bed may seem harmless, but soft surfaces are not safe places to charge rechargeable devices.
Phones, laptops, tablets, gaming devices, and their chargers produce heat while charging. Beds, couches, pillows, blankets, and other soft surfaces can trap that heat and block airflow around the device. That can cause the battery to overheat and increase the risk of fire.
Instead, place your device on a hard, flat surface such as a table, desk, counter, or floor while it charges. Keep it uncovered and give it plenty of room for air to circulate.
It only takes a few seconds to choose a safer charging spot. Small action. Big impact.
