There is nothing I like more than replacing lawn. This yard started as a typical front yard. It was all lawn with a narrow planting bed next to the house that was planted with big Camellias smashed up against the house. I am not sure who started the mostly lawn with plantings against the house look, but It’s not for me. Lawns take too much water, fertilizer and maintenance and planting beds up against a house have extreme sun exposures that make growing plants difficult and then when the plants do grow they make things like painting, window and gutter cleaning very difficult.

Can’t wait for Spring!

My designs need to match the desires of my clients with their surroundings. This is what “In Tune Landscapes” means to me.
This landscape flows seamlessly into the field and hills beyond. And for being less than a year old, I am quite pleased with its progress.

Today, I am ready to treat your acid lovers, i.e. Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Camellias and others. Most know about soil ph, but many forget leaf care. These plants are evergreen, so their leaves are around for many seasons. This gives many very tiny pests time to set up villages on the undersides of their leaves. Get a jeweler’s loop and see for yourself. So, if your evergreens are not shiny and green. Rinse their undersides with all season dormant oil or insecticidal soap.

With stainless steel orbs, these planters look good even when the grasses are cut back.

We have almost finished planting this design. It features a backdrop of a new favorite grass of mine, Seslaria caerulea. It is a low, blue green grass that is evergreen. In this garden it will show off pieces of art, perennials and a gorgeous 'Purple Fountain' Fagus sylvatica.

2020 is off to a fast start. This project is nearing completion. It centers around a stream of dwarf plumbago that will be dormant in the winter; green in the spring; covered with sky blue flowers through the summer and will have bright red foliage in the fall. It flows around boulders of Tuecrium fruticans 'Compacta' and it is banked by grasses, Pennisetum spathiolatum.
