Here’s a look inside the finished mechanical room behind this Ripcord Engineering x Mid-Coast Energy Systems project in South Bristol, Maine! 👀

This three-story, 7,000 sqft home features a sophisticated 11-zone hydronic system powered by two geothermal heat pumps. Messana Controls will manage heating and cooling throughout the home via a radiant ceiling, radiant floor, and Jaga Astrabeam hydronic fan coils, all working together as one integrated system.

To round it out, a Zehnder ERV helps support healthy indoor air quality and year-round comfort.

Last week, we visited a new project in the Tortolita Mountains of northwest Tucson! 🏜️

Francesco spent the day training the system installer on the installation process for our Ray Magic® NK radiant ceiling panels.

This 10,000 sq. ft. home’s 24-zone hydronic system will use three air-to-water heat pumps to generate both heated and chilled water for the radiant ceiling system, as well as the supplementary fan coil units.

- Viessmann Climate Solutions Vitocal air-to-water heat pumps

Today, we hosted BG Plumbing from Salinas at our Soquel office for a hands-on Messana Controls training session!

We spent the day walking through wiring, controls setup, and how Messana Controls can monitor and manage the entire hydronic HVAC system—from the heat pumps and boilers to radiant panels, fan coils, and ventilation units.

“Radiant heating from above? But doesn’t heat rise?” ☀️

That’s a common misconception! It’s hot air that rises — thermal radiation always moves from hot to cold. Just like the sun heating the earth from above, a radiant ceiling can deliver incredibly even, comfortable heating and cooling without relying on air movement. 🔥❄️

This Santa Rosa, CA residence features a Ray Magic® NK radiant ceiling system providing whole-home comfort across nearly 5,000 sqft. Designed by Integrated Design, the home includes 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a game room, and an office — all conditioned quietly and efficiently via the ceiling.

For the great room, a Jaga Briza 22 fan coil will provide supplemental heating and cooling, while also offering light dehumidification to help lower the indoor dew point and support the radiant cooling system. Using Messana Controls, the fan coil can operate at just 20–30% fan speed while circulating very cold water—helping manage dew point without drafts, excessive noise, or overcooling.

The mechanical system, designed by Monterey Energy Group, utilizes two Viessmann Climate Solutions Vitocal air-to-water heat pumps and is managed by Messana White Series controls via an mBox and mZone 8 zoning module.

Another Ray Magic NK radiant ceiling system underway, this time in Santa Rosa, California! 🌤️

This 4,929 sqft home, designed by Integrated Design, includes 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a game room, and an office. A Ray Magic NK radiant ceiling system will provide heating and cooling throughout the home, and a Jaga Briza 22 fan coil will offer supplemental heating and cooling for the great room.

Using Messana Controls, the Briza 22 will also provide light dehumidification to help lower the indoor dew point and support the radiant cooling system. Since Messana Controls can modulate the fan coil’s 0-10 volt fan speed signal, we can operate the unit at only 20 to 30 percent fan speed while circulating very cold water through the hydronic coil. This approach enables dehumidification while avoiding drafts, excessive noise, and overcooling!

The mechanical system was designed by Monterey Energy Group and uses two Viessmann Vitocal air-to-water heat pumps to generate heated and chilled water for all seven zones. The entire system is managed via Messana White Series controls, including an mBox paired with an mZone 8 zoning module.

A mechanical room that sets the bar high — installed by Balance Point HVAC in Rainier, WA!

This 4-bedroom, 6-bathroom, 8,469 sqft home features a sophisticated 4-pipe hydronic system, designed by Positive Energy and managed seamlessly via Messana Controls.

At the core is one mBox hydronic controller paired with three mZone12 zoning modules, orchestrating heating and cooling across 14 independent zones. Two geothermal heat pumps generate heated and chilled water, which is stored in separate buffer tanks to enable simultaneous heating and cooling in different areas of the home.

That water is then distributed to 16 Jaga Briza 22 hydronic fan coil units, delivering both heating and cooling as needed across the zones. Messana Controls also manages indoor air quality through an ERV unit, as well as humidification and dehumidification systems, ensuring complete indoor comfort year-round.

This 2,420 sqft home in Lopez Island, WA, utilizes an mBox10 to manage its hydronic heating and cooling system.

Installed by Truly Radiant Heating, this system features an air-to-water heat pump, radiant floors for first-stage heating and cooling, and hydronic fan coils for second-stage heating, cooling, and dehumidification. 🔥❄️💧
