Great event yesterday at the Elkhart Area Career Center! There are a lot of young men and women eager to start their careers in the building trades. Let's get these young people to work. Encourage your politicians to ensure the use of LOCAL workers on projects in our area and get these young adults started on the career they deserve!!

CMRCC Representatives Doug Delio & Scott Calentine along with CMRCC Outreach Specialist Gavin Gottfried attended the Culver Building Trades award luncheon where Gavin along with North Central CTE Instructors Kyle Elliot & Dan Demont presented some of 30 building trades students with certificates for their course training. These students construct a new home annually for a family in the community and gain the skills they need to start as tradesman. We have good success in attracting many off these students to our apprenticeship. Mr. Elliot will be retiring after 33 years of teaching these great skills to the youth in his community. Much appreciated Mr. Elliot and enjoy retirement!

North Central CTE is excited to feature some of our students! Our featured student today is Coty Keen. He is in Mr. Kyle Elliott’s year 2 Building Trades class located at Culver Community Schools Corporation. Coty is a student at Knox High School.

Mr. Elliott said, “Coty is a hard working student that shows up every day ready to learn. He has a bright future in the electrical field. His ability to desire to learn and share his knowledge makes him a strong leader in class.”

He likes this best about the class: “How helpful and guiding Mr. Elliott is.”

Coty took this class because: “Interest in learning more about construction.”

When asked, “How has this course and program helped prepare you for your plans for after high school?” Coty said, “Helped me experience the start to the finish of building a house letting me learn my favorite parts.”

Coty also said, “Elliott is a great teacher and friend; he helps guide you when needed and also tells good jokes.“, when asked if he wanted to share anything else about the program.

Congratulations to Coty for this wonderful recognition!
