With the worst of the Nor'easter behind us, it's time to dig into the maximum wind gust data. As expected, the highest gusts were recorded along the immediate coastline with both Block Island RI and Wellfleet MA reporting gusts near or above 70 mph! Elsewhere, there were numerous gusts between 45 and 60 mph. While the winds will continue to weaken this afternoon and overnight, occasional gusts to 30 mph have a chance to damage any weakened branches.

Your preparations for this weekend’s coastal storm should be under way at this time.

High winds, heavy rain, and coastal flooding are expected.

Please take steps to prepare for power outages - charge your phones/devices, check batteries in flashlights, radios, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Have spare batteries on hand.

People with medical needs should make sure their equipment is charged with enough supplies to get through the weekend.

Check on neighbors and family that may need some extra help.
If you live in an area that experiences coastal flooding during storms, please consider staying elsewhere for the weekend.

Update from Chatham Fire Dept:

Confidence is growing for an impactful storm this weekend. The greatest impact is expected to be Saturday morning/evening.

A Nor'Easter is expected to impact Cape Cod beginning Friday, Strong winds and heavy rain are expected throughout the weekend.
Forecasts have rain totals ranging from 2" to as much as 6". Coastal flooding as well as flooded roadways are expected. Avoid driving through flood water.

Gale warnings and storm watches are already in effect for waters surrounding Cape Cod. Forecasts are showing sustained winds in the upper 40 mph range with maximum wind gusts potentially reaching 60 mph for the lower and outer Cape.

Tree damage, utility disruptions and power outages are likely.

Here are some tips to prepare:
- Secure outdoor items - bring in or tie down outdoor furniture, trash cans or anything else that could be blown away by strong winds
- Charge phones, flashlights, power banks and make sure you have batteries in the case of power outages.
- Watch for flooding! Coastal areas and roadways may become flooded with the forecast rainfall. Avoid driving or walking through flooded roadways.
-Stay away from downed wires.
-Report power outages to Eversource by calling 1-800-592-2000 or by texting "OUT" to 23129.

If you feel as though you are in danger or are experiencing an emergency, dial 911.

Prepare now, stay safe, and don't wait until conditions deteriorate.

UPDATE, 10:10 p.m.:
The water main on Stage Harbor Road has been repaired and water service to Stage Harbor Rd between Bridge Street and Cross Street and affected side streets has been restored.
Two-way travel on Stage Harbor Road has been restored.

The water main on Stage Harbor Road has been repaired and water service to Stage Harbor Rd between Bridge Street and Cross Street and affected side streets has been restored.
Two-way travel on Stage Harbor Road should be restored within the hour.

UPDATE, 6:40 p.m.:
Restoration of water service to Stage Harbor Road from Bridge Street to Cedar Street and affected side streets is estimated between 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. Stage Harbor Road remains closed to thru traffic. Area residents are able to access their homes.

Anyone experiencing discolored water should run cold taps for 10-15 minutes. If the issue persists, please call the Water Division at 508-945-5150 to report.

Stage Harbor Road from Bridge Street to Cedar Street is closed to traffic due to the development of a sink hole resulting from a water main break in the area of 340 Stage Harbor Road.

Water service will be shut off on Stage Harbor Road from Bridge Street to Cedar Street and all side roads until the extent of the problem is determined.
