Part 3 Save this if you’re building a patio: Screeding the base level.

The pipes give me a level reference so I can screed the stone flat, remove them, fill the voids, and leave a solid surface ready for bluestone.

A patio is only as good as the base underneath it. Today we’re building it right, 6-8 inches of ¾” crushed stone, compacted in layers to create a solid foundation before we start laying bluestone.

Save this if you’re planning a patio, you’ll want to get the base right before laying a single stone.

Next up: getting it perfectly flat.
