This is how we protect our broomed concrete from winter ❄️.
Concrete is susceptible to damage from road salt during the winter months when salt penetrates the surface and freezes in the concrete.
This causes chipping, scaling, and delamination; which is called Spalling.
Using a high quality sealer is the best way to protect your concrete from damage.
The product we use on all of our broomed driveways is a Water-Based permeating sealer. This sealer causes very little to zero color changing, and releases no VOC's.
The photo below shows a piece of cardboard that has 1/2 of the piece treated with the sealer. The side that has been treated does not allow the water to enter the pours of the cardboard, similar to the pours in broomed concrete.
Sealers such as this typically last 3-5 years, and can be re-applied without "stripping" or etching the concrete like many other sealers.
