We're stoked to be a part of the California Fire Safe Business Directory. Our company was founded with the goal of helping our fellow Californians in every way we can, and this is a huge step towards that goal.

Keep an eye out for more brush clearance, thinning, and wildfire mitigation work updates from us!

Excited to showcase our root exposure project in Hillsborough! Our client is working on finalizing their ADU design and needed to know where the existing roots for their neighbors mature Redwood trees intersected with their ADU foundation. Stay tuned to see how we completed this project on schedule!

Throwback Thursday to when we drove this excavator to the gas station in Bishop, CA to fuel up as it was faster than filling up with jerry cans. We were right across the street from the station, and I can tell you we got some great looks from folks as we pulled up!

Who out there has seen the rainbow paint marks that suddenly appear on the street and sidewalk in front of your house? This isn't graffiti! It's actually a super helpful information system for contractors like us.

These are Underground Utility Locate Marks. Before our crews every put even a shovel in the ground, we submit a request to all of the local utility companies (think PG&E, Xfinitiy, CalWater, etc.) to come out and locate their pipes, conduits, and wires that are buried where we want to excavate.

There's a standard color scheme that tells every excavation contractor what is where under the ground so that we can plan our excavation means and methods to avoid damaging or destroying underground utilities when we dig.

So if you see these colored marks show up in front of your house, don't panic! It means your underground infrastructure is about to get a major upgrade!

If you haven't figured it out yet, we LOVE taking our Ford Trucks all over California to work with our amazing clients. No site is too remote or too far for us to get out and move some dirt!

From Forest Service compounds in Bridgeport to cabins in June Lake, the Eastern Sierra communities are some of our favorite to work in. The clients are all fantastic to work with and the views make working more like a vacation.

We're looking forward to getting after it this summer and crushing some projects for clients new and old. Let us know if you need dirt moved!

Folks always ask us how we dig around live utility lines without damaging them.

Some contractors prefer to hand dig or use a backhoe to carefully excavate around the utility lines. We find those methods to be slow and potentially dangerous.

Instead we use vac trucks! These shop-vacs-on-steroids use high pressure water or air combined with powerful suction to liquefy and remove material from around existing utility lines with no risk of damaging the existing lines.

We love these for tough trenching jobs and for potholing for larger grading projects. Give us a ring if you want to know where you utility lines are buried!

🌲 FREE Chipping Day – Saturday, March 28th!

Hey Bay Area neighbors! Here at Harris Excavation, we're using this Saturday to work on sharpening our crew's chipping skills — and we'd love to put that practice to work for you. We are looking for Veteran or First Responder families with tree limbs or other brush we can chip to prepare our crew for the upcoming brush clearance season and get us back into peak form!

We will spend an hour chipping your brush pile ABSOLUTELY FREE! The only catch? We can't haul the chips away, so we will either spread them or pile them up for you on your property.

Spots are limited! We can get to a max of 5 properties on Saturday, so if you are interested or you want to nominate someone, go to our website and fill out the contact form. Mention FREE CHIPPING in the work description and we'll get back to you!

WHAT: FREE CHIPPING!
WHEN: SATURDAY, MARCH 28TH ALL DAY!
