The Trooper Andrew D. Fox Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by Tazewell Today. This award consists of funds procured from a race and a donation drive in his memory. Many members of the greater Tazewell community were eager to donate, remembering how Andrew touched their lives.

Trooper Fox lost his life in the line of duty as a state trooper while serving and protecting his community. One of Andrew’s passions was agriculture and he was an active participant in agricultural education at Tazewell High School.

To continue honoring Andrew’s memory, Tazewell Today is pleased to announce that we are offering two scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, to two recipients from Andrew’s alma mater.

In order to be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be current seniors at Tazewell High School who will graduate at the end of the 2022-2023 academic year. Applicants must demonstrate a passion for agriculture and service to their community. To qualify, they must also have plans to attend college or post-secondary vocational training in the fall. To comply with federal regulations, all award monies will be remitted directly to the institution, for tuition or other fees directly associated with enrollment.

We invite applicants to write a letter, addressed to the Tazewell Today Scholarship Committee, explaining their passion for agriculture and service to their community. These components are loosely defined and we ask candidates to explain what these topics mean in their lives as they prepare for their future.

All applications must be submitted by April 29th, 2023.

In order to complete this application, please attach an essay with a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1,000 words. In this essay, please explain how agriculture and public service to your community have influenced your life and the roles they will play in your future.

As many of you may already know Andy and I moved to North Carolina in December of last year. However, Andy is STILL working and continuing his business in Virginia. He will continue his work for as long as it takes. If any of you hear rumors that he is closing his business please squash those as soon as you hear them. This is not a true statement.
