Phase 3 of our sitework project in Worthington, MA is complete — septic system installation.
This project called for a 37' x 12' B43 Eljen system, carefully designed by the engineer to fit a code-compliant leach field into a tight and challenging area of the property. From the start, this lot presented difficulties, including a tough perc test and a less-than-ideal system location on a shelf along the woodline.
We worked closely with the town and engineer to ensure full compliance with Massachusetts wetlands regulations, as the system falls within the 100-foot riverfront buffer zone. This required coordination, approvals, and filing an RDA with the state to move forward properly.
Site conditions added another layer of complexity. While the soil itself was workable, the amount of underlying ledge made installation extremely challenging. We were able to set the 1,500-gallon septic tank just before hitting ledge, and adjusted elevations slightly to avoid unnecessary rock excavation while still maintaining proper pitch.
Running the 4” drain line to the leach field brought additional challenges. What should have been a straightforward run turned into a reroute around a blueberry field due to shallow ledge conditions. This required extra bends, careful grading, and additional labor to maintain proper depth and pitch.
Once the system was installed, we circled back to set the tank — all while working through early winter conditions that made an already difficult job even tougher.
Every project has its challenges, but this is one we’re proud to add to the portfolio.
We’ll be returning this summer to complete the final phase, including driveway installation, grading, topsoil, and finishing touches to bring the site together.

We did a title 5 inspection on this property transfer last spring in Westfield. The leachfield was in good condition. But the tank on the other hand was not. We found that the tanks structual integrity was compromised and had to be replaced. But man were we in for a suprise when we exposed it last fall when we did this job. All along the top the tank had cracked clean threw, and even had spider cracks in the middle of the tank going from top to bottom. Luckily the tank held together for us as we installed the new plastic tank right next to it. We installed a new 1,500 gallon Norwesco plastic tank. As acess to this back yard was limited and tight. We have done plastic tanks in the past. But each plastic tank manufacturer is just a little different. It was super cool taking a Norwesco plastic tank class for one of my continuing ed courses. And then getting to apply it to the real world. This job had a bonus of a beautiful view of the fall foliage. We were able to dig around the customers in ground sprinklers which was also another bonus for this job. Once again proving our moto of "No Problems Only Solutions". We recently completed a unique and innovative project in Longmeadow Ma featuring a dual-function septic tank. This outstanding installation consists of a 1500-gallon septic tank paired with a 500-gallon pump chamber, designed to maximize efficiency in tight spaces.

While the excavation presented challenges due to its depth— the line left the house at 3ft deep. Making the excavation vary deep, We expertly navigated the complexities. Setting up the pump in the confined close quaters area posed a challenge, but our team was up to the task.

In addition to the tank installation, we carefully excavated the gravel driveway to lay the 2-inch force main to the leach field. To ensure durability and ease of future repairs, we utilized 4-inch SDR 35 piping to sleeve the force main beneath the driveway, minimizing disruption.

Given site restrictions, we successfully designed a raised Eljin system within the limited "island" space of the driveway. Thanks to favorable soil classifications and Eljin’s effective design, we achieved a compliant leach field solution while being mindful of high seasonal groundwater levels from the nearby Connecticut River. Due to Eljins added reduction the leachfield blended in nicely against the driveway. Adding a not so obvious mound to the property in an un usable space.

We are pleased to report that our recent site work project in Worthington Ma went even more smoothly than anticipated, despite some challenges. With our site located only 10 feet from a ledge garden, we successfully excavated around the house without any major issues. However, as we approached the final corner of the garage, we encountered ledge that was a mix of granite and glacial till that required additional effort.

To address this, we rented a 210 excavator equipped with a 5-ton hammer and dedicated three days to meticulously remove the ledge. This was essential for our concrete contractor to set up and pour the foundation. Although the ledge was situated precisely where the frost wall needed to be, once cleared, the project progressed seamlessly.

As excavation continued, the site became tighter, but we were fortunate to have favorable weather conditions this fall, allowing us to avoid delays from rain while backfilling. Looking ahead, our next significant task is the installation of the septic system. This project truly put our moto of "No problems only solutions" to the test.

Conexpo day 3, and our final day at the show was good. Finished off everything I wanted to see yesterday. Happy to see Kubota upping their game and coming out with some new models on their construction equipment. Now we spend the rest of our stay here enjoying some of the things todo in the area.

Each day is better then the next. Con expo day 2 is one to remember. Took a class with some of the most well known social media influencers in the industry. With a wealth of knowledge in social media and marketing pretaining to the excavation industry. Saw some more cool equipment. And got invited to a night club for the first time thanks to Ahearn Equipment, Inc. For the SANY Group customer party. These guys a truly a class act. We appreciate the invitation and getting us in last minute, the hospitality and showing us a good time here in vegas. Heres to day 3.
